The Delaware County District Attorney says a man who was given a probation sentence in 2022 has now been given a prison sentence for violating the terms of his probation.

According to the D.A., in August 2021, officers responded to a burglary in progress in the Village of Delhi. The male burglar, later identified as John Pierre Regazzi, had broken into the residence and the resident had locked herself in her bedroom. Regazzi eventually pleaded guilty to Burglary in the 3rd degree and was placed on probation supervision in April 2022.

Regazzi was arrested and charged with Assault in August 2024. Following his arraignment, Regazzi was served with a Temporary Order of Protection protecting a separate, unnamed victim. The D.A. says it is alleged that Regazzi made numerous calls to the victim with the intent to harass, annoy, threaten, or alarm her.

In October 2024, the county Department of Probation filed a Violation of Probation petition against Regazzi, accusing him of violating the terms of his probation. Included in the petition were allegations of assault charges and repeated drug use. Regazzi admitted to the drug use in court.

A month later, in November, the Delaware County Grand Jury returned a one-count indictment, charging Regazzi with Criminal Contempt in the 1st degree. The D.A. says Regazzi is presumptively innocent of those charges and that case the underlying assault case are still pending.

On Wednesday, Regazzi was sentenced to an indeterminate term of incarceration of no less than two years and no more than six years.
