Former City of Binghamton Mayor Rich David Running for Broome County Clerk
Republican and former City of Binghamton Mayor Rich David is running for Broome County Clerk after current Clerk Joseph Mihalko announced last week he would not be pursuing another term.
David says being a former mayor and a small business owner gives him a unique skill-set of a combination of private and public sector experience that he thinks gives him an opportunity to serve the public well.
The Republican also told Fox 40 that public service was something he has missed taking part in, and the relationships he's built throughout the years could help him hit the ground running.
"A lot of times when people start from scratch, they have to build relationships, right? I have these relationships. I'm somebody that can come in, hit the ground running, and just because it's the clerk's office and, you know, people may look at that a little differently than, you know, a county executive or a mayor," David said. "I, for one, do not. It's an elected office and it's an opportunity to serve. And I miss that. I genuinely miss serving the public. And so I think this is a wonderful opportunity both for the community and for myself. I want to serve the public again."
David's official campaign announcement will take place at the Old Union Hotel in Binghamton on February 12.
