Former Owego Mayor John Loftus Announces Bid for Town Supervisor
Former Town of Owego Mayor John Loftus has announced his candidacy for the Town Supervisor.
He served as mayor from 2006-2008, and has a 47 year career in the private sector, including over 26 years with IBM, Lockheed, and the Loral corporation.
He cites this experience as the reason he believes the local government should be more efficient, and says he hopes to apply those business principles to the supervisor position, saying he wants to maximize partnerships between the village and the County at large.
"When I was mayor in 2006, 2008, I think I was the first and maybe only, mayor that actually reduced taxes. I believe efficiency can be, handled in my work in the private sector, in finance, accounting, contract negotiations, I think we can bring some of those business principles and apply them in government to get relief to the taxpayer," Loftus said.
