100 Years Ago: January 8, 2024
100 Years Ago is brought to you by Broome Recycles.
100 years ago today, a woman on Towpath Road, near Port Crane, yesterday reported seeing the first robin of 1925.
Fire destroyed the old Windsor Castle Inn last night. The tavern is located just outside Windsor and over the years since Prohibition went into effect, it has been one of Broome County’s most notorious road houses.
Over recent days police have received several reports of gangs of youngsters in various parts of the city, annoying pedestrians by throwing snowballs at them.
Finally, a Griswold Street man was arrested last night for stealing coal from a railroad car to provide heat for his family. He was ordered to pay $25 or go to the Broome County Jail for 25 days.
And that was the news 100 years ago.
