Broome County Clerk Joseph Mihalko released a statement on Tuesday, January 7th, that he does not intend to pursue another term as Broome County Clerk.

Mihalko has held this position for the last eight years and has worked on various county issues, including the accessibility of public records, the implementation of optional online appointments for the DMV, and the accessibility of passport applications. 

The County Clerk sent out a release earlier today with a full statement regarding his intentions. 

Former Binghamton Mayor and Republican Rich David told Fox 40 that he intends to run for the Broome County Clerk position and will be making his official campaign announcement in the next several weeks.

"In keeping with the transparency of the Broome County Clerk’s office, today I am announcing my intention not to pursue another term as your Broome County Clerk.

Over the eight years I have served as your Clerk, I have increase accessibility of public records.

I have implemented optional online appointments for the DMV and instituted remote drop boxes for registration renewals within the county office building and at senior centers.

I was co-chair of the Legislative Committee of New York State Association of County Clerks that lobbied and received an increase in revenue for the county in regards to online and mail in DMV transactions.

I authorized the restoration and display of the lost Boston Purchase Map which is a historic treasure of Broome County; along with many other historic artifacts that became the basis of documentaries on WSKG.

I have presided over the swearing in of new citizens as well as increased the accessibility to apply for passports by holding remote passport fairs at various locations throughout the county and many other policies and services for the residents of Broome County.

It has been my honor to serve the residents of Broome County as their Broome County Clerk."
