Temple Concord Hosts Monthly Rummage Sale
The Temple Concord Sisterhood hosted its monthly rummage sale today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For nearly 25 years, the Sisterhood has organized this event on the first Sunday of each month from September through June. But now, organizers say the importance of the sale is greater than ever.
Roz Antoun, a committee member at the temple, said, "I've been watching those of us who work here and those who come here. It's an ongoing need that to me right now, it's more in crisis mode. We have so many people in need in this community."
The sale features a variety of donated items, including clothing, housewares, books, and more. All proceeds benefit local nonprofits and the temple.
Antoun said, "One of the teachings in Judaism is called 'tikkun olam' and that teaching is to make the world a better place. So it's our way of reaching out to help people who need an extra hand up."
Lois Einhorn, a longtime customer, has attended the sale for 46 years. What keeps her coming back?
"The people. And that everything's given in love and I feel like that loving energy are in the items," Einhorn said.
Einhorn recalled how the temple supported her when she adopted children, providing her with resources when she needed them most. "I was given complete access to this place cause the children came with nothing more than the clothes on their back," she said.
Now, Einhorn regularly donates and shops at the sale.
"I feel like it's paying it back and paying it forward," Einhorn said.
The rummage sale is more than just a shopping experience, it's a cycle of giving that continues to touch the hearts of everyone in the community.
