VINES Hosts Winter Soups Workshop With Chef Joshua Lewis
Non-profit organization VINES hosted a Winter soups workshop at their downtown Binghamton office today.
The workshop was led by Joshua Lewis, chef at Lost Dog Café and Lounge, who demonstrated how to make healthy, hearty soup recipes using ingredients like lentils, grains and squash.
Around fifteen people attended, a turnout organizers said exceeded their usual numbers.
VINES hosts weekly cooking workshops that teach the community how to make delicious recipes using locally grown ingredients, each week featuring a new topic and chef.
"The cold is coming and soups are the best way to warm yourself up. And they're usually just so full of nourishment and vegetables and proteins. And then the benefits that you get from the animal bones in broths and cooking them for a long time is just very beneficial and they're very approachable. And I think they're more affordable for a lot of people too. So you can really stretch your dollar a lot with these types of soups and stews," Lewis said.
The next workshop will be next Saturday, featuring a class by nutrition educator Ann Supa on how to make sourdough and crackers.
