Broome County Legislators gathered in the State Office Building in Binghamton to swear-in for their upcoming terms in office.

The ceremony was held for County executive Jason Garnar and other new members of the legislature.

The ceremony also made history, as Garnar is the first Broome County Executive elected to three terms.

His first election win was in 2016, and won re-election in 2020 and 2024.

"I truly never dreamed I'd be standing here as the first person elected to a third term as county executive. And it's a testament, not to me, but to the trust you placed in our shared vision," Garnar said.

Some of the new faces include District 10 Republican Erin Micha, who defeated Democrat Chris Moore,

District 7 Republican Matthew Pasquale defeated Democrat Matt White,

and incumbent Republican Scott Baker won against Conservative Carolyn Price in District 2.

Several speakers including Daniel J. Reynolds, Chairman of the Broome County Legislature and Representative for District 5, credited in part the legislature's ability to work across party lines for the County's successes.

"And it doesn't mean that we always have to agree. As County executive mentioned earlier, sometimes we don't. That's okay. What is important is that, the times where we don't agree that we're respectful to one another and, and actually listen," Reynolds said.

County Executive Garnar hopes the approach can help the county succeed going into the new year.
