2025 brings with it new legislation and laws for the state of New York. Here are just a few that could impact millions of New York residents:

A change that will have an effect on many New Yorkers comes in regard to minimum wage. New York minimum wage is raising fifty cents to $15.50 per hour for most of the state, including the Southern Tier. Workers in New York City, Long Island, and Westchester will see their minimum wage raise to $16.50/hour.

Those battling diabetes will see cheaper costs for insulin in 2025. A new law, taking effect on January 1, eliminates cost-sharing for the vital medication. According to the New York Times, the new legislation eliminates co-pays for insulin covered by health insurance plans that are state regulated.

Expecting mothers in New York will have the opportunity to take advantage of more paid time off in the new year. A new law requires employers to offer up to 20 hours of paid time off to pregnant mothers for prenatal care.

In other healthcare reform, workers in New York will be able to file for workers compensation if they suffer mental injury on the job or extreme work-related stress. This benefit previously applied only to first responders but will be available to all workers in New York starting in 2025.

Meanwhile, if you belong to a gym or fitness center, you will have an easier time canceling your membership. Legislation signed by Governor Kathy Hochul now requires health clubs to accept cancellation of a membership within 10 business days of receiving notice of the cancellation.
