100 Years Ago is brought to you by Broome County Recycles.

100 years ago today,

Willis Sharpe Kilmer treated more than 500 newspaper boys and girls of this city to a big Christmas dinner at the Kalurah Temple. This holiday feast has been a tradition for more than 25 years.

In Endicott, the International Business Machines Corporation held a Christmas party today and presented a bonus to each of its employees.

Finally, on this day 100 years ago, Binghamton native Rod Serling was born. Although born in Syracuse, the following year his family moved to Binghamton, where he would grow up and attend school. Later, as a famous screenwriter and television producer, Serling's work was influenced by the people and places he grew up with in Binghamton. He returned to this area often, and was quoted as saying: "Everybody has to have a hometown -- Binghamton is mine."
