CHOW received a $40,000 check from Weis Markets Friday morning as part of Weis' 17th annual Fight Against Hunger campaign.

The money was raised through donations from customers and employees when they rounded up their purchase totals at checkout, along with a company donation. Dennis Curtin, Weis Markets spokesman says they've been working with CHOW year-round for more than 15 years now and their focus is on helping organizations within the communities they serve.

"What it means for us is that we're being part of the community, that we're mindful that people can shop our stores every day, we're here locally and that being a good neighbor, being part of the community is also giving back to organizations that are helping people especially during difficult times," Curtin said.

CHOW director Les Aylesworth says the donation is helpful to CHOW since they surpassed the total number of people helped in 2023 by October this year and they don't get a lot of grants and are dependent on the generosity of the community to do what they do.

"We're very grateful at this time of year people are generous, are giving and we need that, but the fact is hunger is a year-round issue. This helps us make a dent," Aylesworth said.
