Local Schools Bring Holiday Carols to Community Members Young and Old
With the holiday spirit in full swing, schools around the area were spreading joy a week before the big day, bringing carols from Endicott to Conklin.
This morning, Jennie F Snapp Middle School students traveled to different elementary schools to sing Christmas carols of cultures around the world
French teacher Bryan Tran hoped the students got practical experience with their language of choice, and spread cheer to their peers.
"I've really enjoyed seeing the students, at the elementary schools, they get super excited to see their older pals and friends. And sometimes i think it's really important because, they also get to see their siblings as their role models as well," Tran said.
The performance having a total of 110 students singing this year, including performances in Spanish, Italian, and French.
On the eastern side of the county, 32 Susquehanna Valley High School Students were taking carols to a different audience, bringing their performance to the Conklin senior apartments.
A tradition of caroling the school has been doing for over 30 years, but just began expanding beyond schools last year.
A milestone students like Lillian Short, who has been a part of the school choir since the 4th grade, thinks is a valuable addition.
"I feel like they just don't get as many visitors there. They're not always getting people coming in singing to them where, like the kids, they're doing holiday activities a lot. They're not always having that. So to have us come in, it's really enjoyable for them," Short said.
The Susquehanna Valley High School Chorus hopes to add more events beyond the schools next year, including more homes for senior citizens.
