Members of the community gathered at Savage-DeMarco Funeral Service today to honor the lives of those who fought for our freedoms.

The event was part of the local observance of Wreaths Across America Day, a nationwide initiative where communities come together to remember fallen veterans by placing wreaths on their graves.

The ceremony included a tribute from the Broome County Veterans Memorial Association Color Guard, who laid wreaths for each of the six branches of the military.

After the ceremony, volunteers traveled to local cemeteries to place wreaths on the graves of fallen veterans.

Peter Savage, owner of the funeral service, said that it is important we are remembering these sacrifices, especially during the holiday season.

"That sacrifice is important to remember as we move forward. Because at some point, if we forget that, we may have to use our lives in order to reinstate those freedoms that we share," said Savage.
