Binghamton University honored the fifth anniversary of highly regarded professor M. Stanley Whittingham receiving the 2019 Nobel Prize for chemistry.
Whittingham won the 2019 prize for pioneering research that ultimately led to the development of the lithium-ion battery. The professor has also helped binghamton university become a national leader in battery innovation and manufacturing.
Whittingham has been knighted by King Charles III and has received worldwide acclaim.
"I think the main thing I invented lithium batteries 50 plus years ago, and then they migrated to Asia. It's been my goal to bring them back to this country. And I think we've been very fortunate," Whittingham said.
