The Village of Endicott Celebrates a New Era on Washington Avenue
It's a new era over in the Village of Endicott as local officials celebrated the completion of the village's nine-million-dollar project to bring a new and improved Washington Avenue to the community.
Upgrades to the street include improved safety with ramps and curves, enhanced infrastructure, and fresh paving, paintings, and benches.
The nine-million-dollar project received almost four million dollars from the Greater Binghamton fund.
Construction for the project began back in April 2024 after years of planning to restore the street. Endicott Mayor Nick Burlingame says the best is yet to come for the village of Endicott.
"Washington Avenue has a rich legacy. It was once the bustling heart of commerce for all of Broome County, thriving with the energy of the workers from the E J Shoe Company and R.E.M," Burlingame said. "We remember those days fondly and we will continue to honor the memory of the countless individuals who shaped this community, yet who have also faced our share of challenges and dark days. But today, with your help and dedication, we can declare that the sun is beginning to rise again over our beloved village."
