Binghamton High School Prepares for Thanksgiving Dinner Event
The Binghamton High School Thanksgiving dinner is tomorrow from 11 AM to 2 PM.
Members of the community are being welcomed to the school for a free community feast, with event expecting to serve around 500 people.
Senior students Maria Mustafa and Julia Abbott helped organize the event, and are grateful for each student who volunteered.
"We have a great time, like the day before Thanksgiving. We even dedicate our Thanksgiving Day to do this for the community. It's always a great time, and I'm really happy to be a part of it," Mustafa said.
With 200 turkeys, 150 pounds of mashed potatoes and stuffing, and 80 whole pumpkin and apple pies to prepare,
The school cafeteria and dining hall was filled with students this morning,
"We have a lot of younger students like freshmen and sophomores, but there are also a lot of upperclassmen returning, especially Julia and I. We've been working this for four years now, and a lot of my classmates have as well," Abbott said.
The National Honors Society students who run the event hope freshman and sophomores continue the tradition for years to come.
Elementary school students also chipped in, with themed drawings around the eating area.
Other organizations like the Sisters for Sisters, a women empowerment group, came together to provide toys for the wide range of children that will attend as well.
"We're just hoping for a great turnout once again. Areas. Nice, warm and cozy and hopefully everybody in the community comes out," Mustafa said.
Bus fares to the event are being offered, with several making multiple trips.
