BHS Students Bring Awareness to Drunk Driving by Lighting Tree of Life
Students in the Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) Club at Binghamton High Cchool continued the school's annual tradition of lighting the tree of life ahead of the holiday.
The event is held to remind students of the dangers of drinking, texting, distracted, and impaired driving.
The event also honors the memory of Katie Titus, a Binghamton SADD student who passed away in a non-impaired driving-related accident.
If there is an accident where someone passes away in a distracted driving incident, a white bulb will be replaced with a red one as a reminder.
Jaedan Rankin, SADD President said, "Thats what the celebrations all about, it's trying to raise awareness for all the drunk accidents that could happen. And that's why we plan to never have a red light bulb on this tree. "
SADD Officer Samantha Dalmolen said, "It's about good decision making and open discussions about a lot of risks with driving and any risks, any dangerous behavior through high school. Our big message is just make good decisions because it affects not only you, but your loved ones and everyone in the world. "
