SUNY Broome Hospitality Department Hosts Open House
SUNY Broome Hospitality Programs Department held an open house today, offering prospective students an opportunity to explore the various programs available at the school. Attendees had the chance to tour the college's Culinary and Art Center, participate in a floral design contest, and watch a culinary competition sanctioned by the American Culinary Federation.
"We wanted the public and maybe future students to come see what we're doing. And we also decided to do the competition just to let people know what the culinary students do and what the event students do. So it's just a combination of 'let the community come see what we do all while giving everybody information on our programs, and then to check the structure," said department chair Maria Montemagro.
Students helping at the event encouraged prospective students to consider joining the culinary school.
"Even though the school's an institution, we are more like a family together, so you're never going to be alone. You're always going to have somebody that would be there to help you. Like if you're going through something, if you're struggling, there's always going to be somebody there to help you," said Kennedy Douglas, an event and sports entertainment management student.
