The Broome County Industrial Development Agency(IDA) is close to closing a deal for a new developer to take over the former Davis College campus after accepting a proposal during today's board meeting.

Among the resolutions discussed, the biggest vote was to officially accept an application from Square Deal LLC to acquire and renovate the property of 400 riverside drive, the former Davis College.

The application includes plans to re-purpose the campus into an apartment complex for market rate housing.

Square Deal LLC president Dave Drew says he hopes a deal can be completed by the end of this year, which would total around $15 million for the acquisition and the renovations of the 11 buildings at the 16 acre site.

Drew says, "The opportunity here is to kind of transform what was at one point a flourishing and beautiful campus and making it into something that that could be flourishing and beautiful again as an apartment complex with lots of amenities and essentially a village within a village."

The IDA also announced the launch of a new online community survey focused on the proposed Broome Technology Park spanning the towns of Union and Maine.

This survey aims to gather valuable community insights to help the IDA in presenting a project proposal that delivers maximum benefits to the community.
