Whitney Point Field Hockey Prepares For Fourth Straight Final Four
Whitney Point field hockey has been a staple at the state tournament for the last decade, the Eagles have made the state tournament nine different times and have won the state title on eight of those trips. This upcoming weekend the Eagles look to make it four straight state titles.
The Eagles have been riding high so far in the postseason, outscoring their opponents in the section and the state by a combined total of 22-0 over their last three contests. We spoke to members of the team on heading into the final four for the fourth consecutive season and what they are looking forward to ahead of this upcoming weekend.
"The excitement after the game," said junior midfielder Genevieve Huston. "The feeling of winning is honestly the best part is being at states with a big camaraderie and just everybody being there is amazing."
Sophomore goaltender Lauren Magill spoke on the team overcoming a bit of adversity this season and moving towards their biggest test yet.
"There were some bumps getting here but I'm so excited for the state tournament." said Magill. "I think we're doing very well and we've come a long way since our, recent games, we've done a lot of practicing and we are trying to get ready for this big game."
Whitney Point is coming off a dominant win over Hoosick Falls (Section II) but will face against Carle Place in the semi-final, the very same team they would beat in the state championship last season by a score of 2-0. Head coach Nicole Huston spoke on the tough test at hand beginning this Saturday.
"We've seen them a lot and luckily we've been fortunate but it is going to be a tough game." said Huston. "It's a rivalry and even though it's not local, it is definitely a rivalry between the two of us and that's what makes it fun"
The battle between the Frogs and the Eagles is set for Saturday the 16th at 11:00 A.M. at Arlington High School.
