Broome County SIU Seize Firearms and Narcotics in Significant Bust on the Southside of Binghamton
On Monday, November 11, the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a search warrant at 10 Felters Road apartment W4 on the southside of Binghamton.
The search resulted in the finding of 6 illegal handguns, 1.22 caliber rifle, 10.5 ounces of fentanyl pills, 38 grams of cocaine and crack cocaine, 42 grams of methamphetamine , and over $59,000 in suspected drug money.
"If your plan is to deal drugs, if your plan is to have dangerous illegal weapons in this community, law enforcement agencies will be out looking for you. They will find you and they will bring you to justice," City of Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham said.
39-year old Rashidy J. Oliver was arrested and charged with seven drug and weapon charges, including the following:
- One count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the first degree
- Five counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the third degree
- Two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the fifth degree
- Six counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the second degree
- Eight counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the third degree
- One count of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the fourth degree,
- Two counts of Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia in the second degree.
"Thank you to the men and women who are working in the Special Investigations Unit Task force," Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar said. "You know, I've said this often. It certainly bears repeating that when all of us are home with our families, when we are sleeping, these are the guys that go out and face danger head on. This is a significant case."
Since the start of 2024, Broome County SIU has seized 91 illegal firearms and recovered over 882 grams of fentanyl, 165 grams of heroine, over 2,000 grams of meth, and 796 grams of crack cocaine.
"It's impossible to know how many shootings or lives may have been saved by dozens of firearms, dozens of firearms attacks versus taken off the street in our community this year alone," Binghamton Chief of Police Joseph Zikuski said.
