American Legion Post 1700 Honors All POW MIA Soldiers
The American Legion Post 1700 honored all prisoner's of war and soldiers missing in action as today marks national POW/MIA Recognition Day.
The location has hosted this ceremony for 16 years, consisting of prayers, words from local officials, and taps playing at the end. At today's ceremony, the post had a table featuring an empty chair, a candle, and an American flag to symbolize the soliders that can't be here today.
Commander Dave Williams says the most important thing is to continue educating the younger generations of these soldiers.
"As the World War Two veterans pass on, we get that Korean virtually Vietnam vets, and then we go to the Iraqi vets and like that, they're all just as important. But it's very important for our future generations," Commander Dave Williams said. "I have eight grandchildren. We all have grandchildren and friends and neighbors. And we want to continue this on till they're all accounted for. We know they can't all be accounted for, but let's get as many back home as we can because they made it possible for us to be here today."
