Endzone Extras: Greene Trojans
Over in eight-man with the Greene Trojans the team will be looking a bit different when it comes to their roster in 2024, with many new faces on the team but head coach Dave Gorton says it could be a positive.
"They've got great enthusiasm and it's a constant learning game coming from the modified," said Gorton. "They haven't seen some of the things they're going to see on varsity so it's quite exciting".
The team acknowledging that although they may have lost a large portion of their team from a season ago, they say their scrappiness and and preparation will help them this season.
"We've just been working our butts off," said senior center Taylor Taggart. "We know we're young, we know we're not the biggest, but we got heart."
Another big factor Gorton says is the depth of this years team which will allow the Trojans to produce to their highest potential.
"Last year, even though we had a really strong group, we had some injuries, we didn't have the depth pieces to replace that." said Gorton. "This year we think we have guys that can step in and help us."
For Greene as a whole though, their expectations are simple; to stick to the game plan and the positive results will follow.
"I really think we could be a good unit this year," said junior guard Isaiah Sexton. "It's really just going to depend on if we can stick to our assignments and read our keys and play well."
Greene will open up their season on the road at Catskill this Friday and then have their home opener on September 26 when they host Newfield.
