Coming in at number seven is Sue Carlin, who boasted the original Section IV field hockey dynasties.

CORRECTION: SUE CARLIN IS THE SECOND-WINNINGEST COACH IN SECTION IV FIELD HOCKEY HISTORY. KAREN FUNK'S 495 IS THE MOST.

Carlin was a Greene graduate and attended Herkimer Community College where she played field hockey, volleyball and basketball...One year later, Carlin took her talents to SUNY Cortland where she was a three-year field hockey back with the Red Dragons.

After her playing days, Sue went on to coach, first at Maine-Endwell in 1980 and four years later in 1984, the State first implemented a tournament to crown a state champion. Carlin led the Spartans to title game appearances in three straight years, going 0-3 each time. But in '88, Carlin got over the hump, beating Centereach 1-0 and scoring the first goal their opponent had allowed all year and giving Section IV its first-ever State Title.

Carlin and M-E repeated one year later in 1989. Carlin left M-E in '93 and returned to high school in 2001 where she took over her alma mater, Greene. One season later, Carlin led Greene to a Class B State Title, her first of three with the Trojans.

Carlin and Co. won the Class A Title in 2009 and the Class C Championship in 2012 before Coach Carlin once again decided to hang it up, retiring as Greene's head coach in 2015, stacking 418 career wins, the most ever by a Section IV Coach, 13 Section titles and nine final four appearances.

Since leaving the high school ranks, Carlin joined her college alma mater, SUNY Cortland as an assistant coach where the Red Dragons have been a perennial powerhouse at the Division III level, even earning a National Field Hockey Coaches Association Region 3 Coaching Staff of the Year honor in 2023.

For being the original Section IV State Champion Field Hockey coach and leading two different schools to multiple State Championships, adding up to five in total, winning 400-plus career wins, the most-ever by a Section IV Coach then taking her talents to SUNY Cortland, Sue Carlin comes in at number seven on Fox 40's Top 40 Most Impactful Local Sports Figures.
