#28 on Fox 40's Top 40: Dan Briggs
We continue with Fox 40's Top 40 Most Impactful Local Sports Figures of All Time, sponsored by UHS Sports Medicine and UHS Orthopedics.
Coming in at number 28 is...Deposit-Hancock's Dan Briggs.
There is nobody who has made as big an impact in as little time as Dan Briggs. Dan graduated from Deposit after being a star in football, baseball and wrestling.
Afterward, Briggs became an assistant coach with Deposit softball in 2011 and was a key figure in hoisting a state Championship in 2015. One season later, Briggs took over as the head coach and hasn't looked back since. Briggs led the Deposit Lumberjacks to state titles in 2016, 2017 and 2019 with a runner-up finish in 2018. There were no State Tournaments in 2020 or in 2021, but in 2022 as a combined program, Deposit-Hancock picked up where they left off, winning three straight state titles and capping off a run of six state championships in seven tournaments. Briggs has won eight straight Section IV titles since taking over in 2016 and shows no sign of slowing down.
Briggs' selection doesn't come alone as the Eagles and Lumberjacks have produced incredible talent out of the Class D Ranks. Mackenzie Stiles holds the record for most strikeouts from a Section IV Pitcher and won four State Titles across her five varsity years. Briggs has coached in every MAC Championship since taking over in 2016 and has won the league six times.
For his dominance as a coach evident in the numbers--six state championships, eight Section IV titles and six MAC crowns, for his ability to connect two communities together and get girls recruited out of the Class D level all while competing against and beating bigger schools in the regular season, Dan Briggs comes in at number 28 on Fox 40's Top 40 most Impactful Local Sports Figures with the knowledge that if you give this guy and the DH program another five years, he might get all the way up in the top 10.
Be sure to tune in every weeknight at 6 and 10 pm as we feature one sports figure per night!
