We continue with Fox 40's Top 40 Most Impactful Local Sports Figures of All Time, sponsored by UHS Sports Medicine and UHS Orthopedics.

Coming in at number 30 is...Afton's Holly Aprile!

Aprile's story is one of the more dominant in Section IV small school history, playing field hockey, basketball and softball, but it was on the diamond where Aprile wrote much of her story.

Aprile played four years of varsity softball, winning four Section IV and Regional Titles, tossing three perfect games and a Section record of 32 no-hitters. Holly's dominance in our area, extended to the state level, winning two New York State Class D Championships with the Crimson Knights.

Aprile went on to UMASS, becoming a Third-Team All-American and leading the Minutemen to the 1992 College World Series. Aprile was the Division I leader in doubles in '91 and was the Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Year in 1990 as a sophomore!

After college, Aprile joined USA softball and won gold medals in the South Pacific Classic and Pan-Am qualifiers.

While still playing, Aprile began coaching and eventually became the Pittsburgh head coach in 2009. Aprile rejuvenated the Panthers program, advancing to an NCAA Regional in 2015 and earning the 2018 ACC Coach of the Year honors.

Aprile took over for Louisville in 2019 and has made a pair of NCAA Regionals with the Cardinals.

For her dominance at Afton and having some of the gaudiest numbers in all of Section IV history, for her dominance at UMass and representing the USA, then becoming one of the better NCAA Softball Coaches in the country and amassing three Regional appearances, Holly Aprile comes in at number 30 on Fox 40's Top 40 Most Impactful Local Sports Figures.

Be sure to tune in every weeknight at 6 and 10 pm as we feature one sports figure per night!
