Attorneys representing Leor Kweller, one of the former defendants in the colonial rape trial from last year, releases a statement announcing he has filed a notice of claim against the Broome County District Attorney's Office and the City of Binghamton.

Co-defendant Ron Kweller also filed a notice of claim.

In the announcement, Kweller's representatives say the claim against the city of Binghamton and the Broome County District Attorney's Office is for wrongful arrest and malicious prosecution.

On May 30th, 2023, the New York State Supreme Court dismissed the case against Kweller, however in June 2023, the Broome County district attorney’s office under Michael Korchak initiated an appeal to overturn the court’s decision.

The appellate division ended that appeal on April 1st, 2024.

Kweller filed his notice of a claim soon after, stating his intention to sue those responsible for what his camp is calling an injustice, that caused harm to Mr. Kweller and his family.

They stated the allegations and trial cost Kweller his job, ruined his reputation, and caused him emotional and financial harm.

In a statement from Ron Kweller's attorney Elena Fast, she said," Mr. Kweller has maintained his innocence throughout the duration of his criminal case and exercised his right to a public trial.

The jury swiftly acquitted Mr. Kweller in under two hours, which is a testament to the jury not crediting any of the allegations against Mr. Kweller."

We have not been informed of any official suit or case filed by Kweller but will bring you more information if any becomes available.

We also contacted the Broome County district attorney's office for a comment but did not get a response.
