Binghamton University hosts its first annual 5k run, walk, and roll event to celebrate Juneteenth.

Over 100 people registered for the 1.3-mile loop following the university's "campus brain" sidewalk.

The event is not timed and participants are not offered medals for coming in first, but the first 100 registrants were given a free t-shirt.

It is hosted by organizations on campus, including the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, B-Healthy Campus Initiative, and Campus Recreation.

"It was more so about getting people active, partnering with someone, maybe finding someone new that you didn't know, and having a conversation and reflecting on Juneteenth. We said next year we'll probably try to add a little bit more elements to it that would resemble your typical 5K," said Jazelle Johnson, co-organizer of the event.
