Five local police organizations will be receiving a portion of $4 million in grant money for law enforcement in the Southern Tier.

State Senator Webb secured the funds as part of a program by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, with money set to be allocated for improving law enforcement technology such as unmanned aerial vehicles, license plate readers and gunshot detection services.

The following police organizations in Broome County received grant money:

  • Broome County Sheriff's Office: $834,118
  • Village of Endicott Police Department: $770,000
  • City of Binghamton Police Department: $468,668
  • Vestal Police Department: $211,700
  • Village of Johnson City Police Department: $136,100

In a statement to the media, Webb expressed her satisfaction with the grants she helped secure.

“I am pleased that police departments and sheriffs’ offices across the district will receive nearly $4 million in state funding to improve public safety in our communities,” Webb said. “These funds will ensure that local law enforcement has access to the latest equipment and technology so that they can implement evidence-based practices and keep our neighbors safe.”
