Bump, L'Amoreaux Earn America East Honors
The Binghamton University softball team is having one of their best seasons in years, they've earned a share of the America East Regular season title, will play as the two seed in the upcoming conference tournament, and now, boast the league's player and coach of the year.
Bearcats head coach Jess Bump was named the America East Co-Coach of the Year while senior Allison L'Amoreaux was given the Player of the Year nod.
Bump has led the Bearcats to a 32-16 record and 14-6 conference mark, earning a share of the regular season title for the first time since 2017. Bump became the team's head coach at the end of the 2021 season and has an 85-59 record. The Bearcat bench boss is a graduate of Windsor Central and played collegiately with the Bearcats. Bump shares the honor with Bryant's Bianka Bell.
L'Amoreaux has been a dual threat all year, hammering seven home runs with a batting average a hair under .300 while pitching a 3.31 Earned Run Average over 114 innings. As a senior, L'Amoreaux ranks third on the team in batting average (.298), second in OPS (.912, among qualified hitters) and second in ERA at 3.31. L'Amoreaux has earned two Player of the Week nods and three Pitcher of the Week awards across this season. L'Amoreaux is a graduate of Maine-Endwell.
Here's L'Amoreaux and Coach as they look to take on the America East playoffs this weekend.
"I think before sometimes people put a lot of pressure on themselves in these tournament situations," L'Amoreaux said. "High-pressure games, high-pressure situations. But I think, especially this past year, we've learned that we play our best softball when we don't put as much pressure on ourselves, we play loose and we just play, do what we can do, and do what we have been doing this whole season. So I think personally, I think we should continue to keep playing like it's just a normal regular season game."
"They've been on a mission the last few weeks," Bump said. "So that's not going to change just because we're going up to Maine and playing for a championship. I think we just got to play our softball. And if we do everything we need to do, everything will kind of take care of itself."
The America East's Pitcher of the Year is UAlbany's Wendi Hammond who graduated from Waverly.
Redshirt junior utility Lindsey Walter joins L'Amoreaux on the first-team selection, batting .313 with seven appearances in the circle. Senior infielder Shelby Carvalho and junior outfielder Brianna Santos earned second-team all-conference selections.
Freshmen Alisa Allen and Maddy Dodig received All-Rookie team honors.
