Family Violence Prevention Council Celebrates 3rd Annual Art Contest
Acknowledging the hard work of the creative youth, the Family Violence Prevention Council celebrates the participants of its third annual art contest.
Over 56 submissions from students all over Broome County and the winning piece got over 1000 votes on the organization's website. As this year's theme was "Be the light", the art pieces focused on positivity and shining.
Those who participated got the opportunity to discuss safety and wellness with adults, a protective factor against child abuse.
"It's just really important that we include the youth in the work that we're doing," Coordinator for Family Violence Prevention Council of Broome County Kristin Beylo said. "We're talking about preventing child abuse. And a key factor to that is how we are going to include their experience in our conversations. And I think they bring it to their work."
