Republican Senate Candidate Visits Broome County
Republican Senate Candidate Mike Sapraicone visited Broome County on Tuesday, April 23.
The former NYPD detective and Queens native spoke with reporters in Vestal today. Thanks to large support from state committee leaders, Sapraicone announced his candidacy in February.
Republicans are looking to recapture the Senate and the White House. Sapraicone has said he would work with Trump in solving the ongoing migrant crisis.
"Right now in our country, we lack plans. So when you look at illegal immigration down on the southern border, we don't even talk about the northern border. You go up to Clinton County where we have this huge border," Sapraicone said. "New York in Canada in the last year, 250% is the increase in illegal immigration coming across the Canadian border. These are things we need to change, but we don't have a plan B because we don't have a plan."
Sapraicone was also the keynote speaker at the Broome Republicans' Annual Republican Leadership Dinner in where nearly 300 guests and elected officials gathered in downtown Binghamton.
The Queens native discussed with attendees the importance of understanding the candidates, voting, and taking on crime within the community.
Chairman of Broome County Republican committee Benji Federman says the former NYPD detective's experience is exactly what the Republican party needs to take back the state.
"Mike Sapraicone brings 20 years as an NYPD detective. He was keeping our community safe in some of the toughest neighborhoods in New York City. He's a business owner, successfully ran a business and knows that red tape and what high taxes mean for businesses. They're leaving. They're leaving New York State. And so he understands those issues," Federman said. "Those are the exact issues that the Republican Party is running on this year. Safer communities and a stronger economy. And we feel very confident that that's in stark contrast to Kirsten Gillibrand."
