American Heart Association Gets Ready for Annual Southern Tier Heart Walk
On April 28, the American Heart Association will be holding its annual Southern Tier Heart Walk at Binghamton University in Vestal.
Seeing thousands participate each year, the three-mile walk celebrates heart health and honors survivors of heart disease.
The fundraising goal this year is $375,000 to support the work of the American Heart Association, including teaching CPR and providing CPR kits to schools.
The April 28th walk is a part of the American Heart Association's Heart Challenge, a series of workplace events that inspire employees to become more engaged and get in their exercise.
"What's really important is to know that 80% of the causes of heart disease can be we can attack them together," President and CEO of the Guthrie Clinic Dr. Edmund Sabanegh said. "Let me give you an example. By maintaining healthy weight, exercise, avoiding tobacco, and so many other things, keeping our blood pressure under control, all of those things can prevent us being one of those statistics that we talked about."
