Kids CAN Build Returning for Another Year
Students at 9 area middle and high schools are getting the chance to test their STEM skills and help CHOW with Kids CAN Build.
Students create structures out of canned goods with the help of mentors and learn about food insecurity in the community.
"Someone from industry is helping them talk about why their design looks like it is and what they want to do," said Matt Sheehan, Director of The Center for Career and Technical Excellence at Broome-Tioga BOCES. "All those pieces together make this event, this program amazing and the impact for our community cannot be, yes, we can measure it, but it really can't be measured. It's one of those things that, you know, is improving where we live."
Their structures are judged on the overall design, best meal, most creative and structural ingenuity. They're displayed at the schools before being de-can-structed and donated to CHOW.
