Today Congressman Marc Molinaro held his 2023 progress report outside of his Binghamton office highlighting some accomplishments of 2023.

At the end of his conference, Molinaro talked about the importance of securing the southern border during the current crisis and mental health services.

When it came to the border crisis Molinaro mentioned that he had visited the border the past week and observed many of the issues of the ongoing crisis. He stated some of his goals to help curb the current issues.

“One is to secure the border. That means physical, that means staffing, and it means technological support to secure the southern border. It includes the ability to enhance the asylum-seeking process for those who are honestly trying to enter this country legally” said Congressman Molinaro.

When it came to addiction and mental health services, Molinaro was very adamant about putting a great deal of focus on the issues citing that 2023 was a record year with the most overdose deaths in the southern tier occurring last year.

Congressman Molinaro said during his press conference, “It has been our lane and we've prioritized mental wellness, substance use disorder, and support for those with disabilities, and we will continue to do so. It's why I'm fighting so aggressively in a bipartisan way to make sure the 1988 helpline formally its suicide prevention hotline, is effective. It is not as effective as it can be today.”
