A program recognizing local veterans' service kicked off today at the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena.

The event brought out many local officials to honor the veterans including Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo, Senator Lea Webb, County Executive Jason Garnar, and Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham.

The program unveiled the new banners that are put up in Binghamton.

The Binghamton hometown heroes program recognized eleven veterans this year including the late Rod Serling.

Serling was one of three World War Two veterans.

Also on the list, a Civil War veteran, three vets who fought in the Vietnam War, two Gulf War vets, and two who served in the Global War on Terrorism.

The project took several months of planning and banners went up Monday.
