The Broome County District Attorney's Office announces a Binghamton man has pleaded guilty to felony Robbery in the third degree.

The office notes, 57-year-old Nicholas Vail admitted that he forcibly stole property from another person.

This stems from an incident on February 25, 2023, where authorities say he entered the Quality Markets on Vestal Avenue in Binghamton, demanded money from a worker and then attempted to take the cash register off the counter. When the worker prevented him from doing so, Vail stated that he had a gun and placed his hand in his pocket.

Vail fled, but was later identified through surveillance footage.

Vail was previously convicted of Burglary in 2019, and will be sentenced to 3 ½ to 7 years in New York State prison on August 15, 2023.

“Broome County has services available for those in need. However, felons who threaten and steal from hard working citizens will receive no sympathy. They’ll receive a State prison bid,” said Michael A. Korchak, Broome County District Attorney.
