Over $9 million is coming to Binghamton University from the U.S. Department of Education.

The money will be used to expand mental health services in the Southern Tier. It's part of the Mental Health Service Provider Demonstration Grant Program.

In all, two 5-year grants totaling $9.3 million were awarded to BU.

$5.7 million will be used for the Rural Mental Health in Schools Expansion, to expand social work support to middle and high school students and families in the Harpursville, Whitney Point, Windsor, and Owego-Apalachin districts.

The other $3.5 million will be used for the Family Partner Program that serves around 3,700 students in the Chenango Forks and Maine-Endwell districts.
