Binghamton Man Sent to Prison for Gun Possession

A Binghamton man will spend two years in state prison after he plead guilty to Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the second degree.
This stems from an incident on March 26, 2022 where police say 24-year-old Vance S. Murray admitted he illegally possessed a loaded nine millimeter pistol in the Village of Endicott.
According to the Broome County District Attorney's Office, Endicott police were conducting a traffic stop of a vehicle, in which Murray was a passenger, in the area of Vestal Avenue and East Main Street in Endicott. Police say an occupant of the vehicle had an active warrant and was taken into custody. Murray was then discovered to have a nine millimeter handgun is his backpack.
Murray was sentenced to two years in New York State Prison, followed by two years of post-release supervision.
“Our local law enforcement is doing an outstanding job taking illegal guns off our streets. Though defendant Murray had no prior felony convictions, criminals should be on notice that if you possess an illegal gun in Broome County you will go to prison,” said Michael A. Korchak, Broome County District Attorney.
