Six Arrested on Illegal Weapons Charges in Broome County
Half a dozen men were arrested by state police on illegal weapons charges on Sunday after two separate traffic stops in Chenango.
According to state police, all six possessed illegal guns and magazines that were not compliant with the New York SAFE Act.
The first traffic stop on Upper Front Street came after troopers observed vehicle and traffic violations.
Both Jeffrey A. Everetts and Nephrem W. Holt were charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd degree.
Holt was issued an additional charge of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th degree.
In addition to the guns, they were also in possession of illegal metal knuckles and suspected illegal narcotics.
A second traffic stop on Upper Front Street resulted in four Pennsylvania men being found with illegal guns and magazines.
Robert J. Applegate II, Robert J. Applegate III and Glen W. Applegate were all charged with three counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd degree.
Trevor D. Sweigart was charged with four counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd degree.
All six were remanded to county jail without bail.
