Good Shepherd Fairview Home has earned national recognition from the U.S. News and World Report, ranked as one of the best nursing homes in the country.

Good Shepherd's Fairview campus received a high-performing rating from U.S. News and World Report. Out of the more than 15,000 skilled-nursing facilities reviewed by the publication, 13% have received that high-performing designation.

"It's all about staffing. If you don't have excellent staff, knowledgeable staff, you're not going to succeed. We're lucky in that we have both," says Michael Keenan, President and CEO of Good Shepherd Communities.

Keenan says the facility lost very few staff members during the pandemic and was able to maintain a level of care. He says U.S. News looks at several factors when ranking nursing homes, including staffing, patient care, COVID vaccine compliance, and, for rehabilitation centers like Fairview, the percentage of patients sent home after short-term rehab.

"We send home the majority of the people who come to short-term, and that's not always the case in other facilities," says Keenan, "In New York State, over half the people who go in for short-term rehab don't return to home. At Good Shepherd Fairview, I believe we're returning just about 65% of the people who come in are going back home."

Fairview Home is now eligible to display the U.S. News Best Nursing Home award badge.
