At Marvin Park, Owego residents and first-responders came together to show support to one another in light of the past year-and-a-half.

"This is big, we're just trying to get everyone together," said Owego Mayor Mike Baratta. "...Celebrate getting through life the last couple of years."

Reflecting on life in a pandemic, the Mayor says it has been hard on everyone. Residents and those with the responsibility to protect them were each affected.

"It just feels good to give back to the community," said Owego Police Chief Joe Kennedy.

The event was put together by the first responders themselves. As a way to have some fun while saying 'Thank You' to the residents for their continuing support.

"They really have been good to us through the whole thing," Kennedy said. "From doing things for the guys at the department, bringing stuff in for us, really letting us know that we're appreciated."

The event was hosted by Owego Police but was paid for by the community members.

"Everything here tonight is free - the parking, the food, the fire,- and it's all local community members who donated to make it possible," Kennedy said.

The fire department also came out in support and helped out with organizing.

The event included live music, a bonfire, free food, and even hayrides. The Owego Village Board donated the use of the park and stage for the night.
