Former Westchester County Executive and Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Rob Astorino held a press conference outside of the Broome County Board of Elections to share his thoughts on next year's gubernatorial race, and his ideas for election reform.

Astorino ran against Incumbent Governor Andrew Cuomo back in 2014, and while he came up short he kept it at a relatively close margin, taking just over 40 percent of the vote.

Astorino said "That's how we are going to win statewide as a republican... In doing well in the New York City suburbs... And sweeping upstate like I did in 2014 when I gave Cuomo literally the closest race of his lifetime in seven statewide races we came by far the closest anyone has ever gotten... So we are prepared to finish him off this time and I honestly feel... You see it in the polls where 2/3 of New Yorkers don't want him to run again... I think his time is up..."

One of Astorino's focuses in the upcoming election is election reform, and he wants to use 5 steps to raise the public's confidence in the election process.

The 5 steps include making photo IDs required to vote, require a chain of custody for votes cast, require signatures for absentee ballots, clean up inactive voter lists, and make sure non-citizens can't vote.

Astorino continued "I think ultimately the voter's their erosion of confidence in the system is going to force change because as the governor I will force that with the legislature because it's the best thing and the right thing to do in new york and I think it takes a very strong executive... "
We are still very early in the election process for governor, as the actual election isn't until November 2022.
