While we’ve known for a couple of weeks now that the Devils will not be returning to Binghamton, it’s now official New Jersey’s affiliate will be heading to Utica.

The American Hockey League’s Board of Governors unanimously approved the relocation of the team from Binghamton to Utica beginning for the 2021-2022 season. The deal in place between Utica and the Devils is for 10 years. New Jersey previously had their AHL affiliate in Utica from 1987-1993. The team will continue to be known as the Utica Comets.

The Vancouver Canucks, whose AHL affiliate was the Utica Comets, is moving their affiliate to Abbotsford British Columbia. Following both moves being approved at the AHL’s Board of Governors meeting, Binghamton remains without an AHL affiliate for the time being.
