Broome County Support Magistrate Sandy Monachino announced he is running for Broome County Family Court Judge on Wednesday.

Monachino has served 7 years in Broome County Family Court, working on over 10,000 family court cases. Before that, he spent three decades in private practice as a partner at Chernin & Gold and Levene, Goldin, & Thompson.

“I’ve seen firsthand the tireless good work of our Family Court judges, and how they always grapple with complex legal issues while placing the interest of children above all other interests when rendering their decisions. And I now believe that I am ready and well prepared to serve the people of Broome County as their next Family Court Judge," said Monachino in a statement.

Monachino graduated from Le Moyne College in 1981 and from St. John's School of Law in 1984.

“I’ve had the honor and privilege of having worked with Sandy Monachino for decades in his capacity as an attorney and for the last 7 years as a Support Magistrate for the Family Court. Sandy is competent, compassionate, experienced and displays impeccable judgement, all qualities needed in a Family Court Judge," said Retired Family Court Judge Spero Pines.

Monachino will be running on the Democratic ticket for the New York Primaries in June.

Other candidates for Broome County Family Court include Veronica Gorman, Brett Noonan, Josh Shapiro, and Mara Grace.
