Johnson City Village Trustee Marty Meaney Speaks On Run For Mayor
Johnson City Village Trustee Marty Meaney announced his run for mayor on Tuesday, following current Mayor Greg Deemie's announcement that he will not be running for reelection.
Meaney, a former firefighter, is serving his third term as a Republican Trustee on the Johnson City Village Board.
"There's a lot of moving parts going on in Johnson City right now and feel It's going to take someone who's got some knowledge of what's going on with the board and the things that are coming to Johnson City with all the development," said Meaney.
Meaney says he'd like to see Johnson City move forward with its revitalization.
"There's a balance there we have with find with a lot of the properties coming off the tax rolls and trying to generate tax revenue to combat that," said Meaney. "It's not going to be an easy chore."
Meaney, who also ran back in 2017, says he made his announcement early so residents they'll be familiar with him when petition time comes around. He hopes people will come to him to ask questions.
"It's a community effort. I think we need to listen and share information and see where we need to go from there to bring our Village -- it's definitely on its way back but to bring it all the way back," said Meaney.
The New York State Primary Election is on June 22.
