UPDATE 11:31 A.M. JULY 31 

On July 30, 2019 at approximately 2:50 p.m., New York State Police at Binghamton responded to a crash on Interstate 88 in the town of Fenton.

An investigation revealed that Douglas A. Peters, age 55 of Amsterdam, NY was operating a 2013 Toyota Sienna when he rear-ended an unoccupied attenuator truck that was stopped in the passing lane on Interstate 88 just west of exit 2. The truck did have its emergency lights and arrow stick activated. The operator of the attenuator truck was collecting signage and not in a work zone.

Peters failed to observed the truck, rear-ended it then struck a concrete barrier. Peters was ejected after his vehicle struck the concrete barrier.

Peters was transported to Wilson Memorial Hospital and is in stable condition. He is being ticketed for Failure to Exercise Due Care When Passing a Stopped, Standing or Parked Hazard Vehicle and Safety Belt Not in Use.

One person has been sent to the hospital after a car crashed into a construction vehicle on I-88 East Bound between Exit 1 and 2 Tuesday afternoon. 

The crash happened around 3 p.m. Crews closed down both lanes of the highway, putting east bound traffic at a stand still. The 88 on-ramp and the Brandywine highway were also blocked off. 

New York State Police said the driver of the civilian vehicle was the only one injured in the crash. No one was in the construction vehicle at time of the crash. 

State Police said the driver was taken to Wilson Hospital and is in stable condition. 

As of 4:28 p.m., the highway and ramps were re-opened.
