The Binghamton Police Department is looking for new recruits to join the force.

Anyone who's interested in joining the BPD team must apply by July 31st in order to get ready for the written test on Saturday, September 14th.

There are a few requirements in order to be considered for any of the open positions including a minimum of 60 credits hours from an accredited college by the start date.

For those who do not have college credit hours those who have two years of experience of active military service are also eligible.

Larry Hendrickson, Administrative Captain at BPD says, "Every year we have officers retire, we have a 20-year retirement in the City here so after 20 years some officers will leave the force. When they leave we will have open spots and this year we are anticipating a significant number of hires".

All newly hired BPD members will start on the Patrol unit making a starting salary of $45,000 per year with the chance of making upwards of $75,000 per year after 5 years.

Hendrickson says that the Binghamton Police Department is the biggest local police department in the area and because of that there are 13 different divisions that officers can work their way through the ranks including detective work, SWAT, and internal affairs.
