The 8th annual Duck Derby took place on Sunday afternoon at the Riverwalk in Downtown Binghamton.

The Duck Derby, which is the Broome County Humane Society’s biggest fundraiser, is already being considered one of the most successful in it’s eight years.

10,000 rubber ducks were available to ‘buy’, and the owner of the winning duck in the derby received a grand prize of $5,000.

All proceeds from the event went directly to the Humane Society to benefit the animals being cared for.

Karen Matsen, the Executive Director of the Humane Society, said “This event helps us significantly when it comes to making sure the animals have everything they need until they find their fur-ever homes. The proceeds provide all the medical care that they need.. Spay/neuter, the food that they require when they’re in our care.”

Matsen said that the event bring in between seventeen thousand and twenty-two thousand dollars.
