Binghamton Alum Bridget Orchard Named Softball Head Coach At Villanova
Binghamton High School Alum Bridget Baxter, now Bridget Orchard is heading back to her Alma Mater to become Villanova's head softball coach. Orchard leaves Fordham softball where she's coached the past 17 seasons and has combined for 624 wins.
Fordam has had tremendous success with the Rams as they just recently won their sixth consecutive Atlantic 10 championship and seventh overall, as well as making the program's eighth trip to NCAA Regionals. Orchard entered the program in 2001 and became the program's leader in wins with her fifth victory in 2004.
According to Fordham athletics, Orchard "has announced her intention to step down as head coach of the Fordham softball program to take the same position at her alma mater, Villanova, effective immediately."
Orchard will take over at Villanova as former head coach Maria DiBernardi announced her retirement after coaching the Wildcats the past 34 seasons. Villanova Athletics posted a press release on their website stating, "Above all, Bridget is a Villanovan and understands our community and the greater mission of our university. We could not be more excited to welcome Bridget and her entire family back home.”
